Sonali Ojha is a Mumbai based independent psychology practitioner, researcher and mental health professional whose work advocates psychological care that is scientifically informed and individual. Currently pursuing a PhD in Psychology, she has built a multidisciplinary academic foundation across Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and English. She brings these areas together through psychological assessment, counselling, psychoeducation, clinical interviews and research.Ojha’s approach looks beyond an immediate diagnosis or symptom. She believes that psychological wellbeing is shaped by a combination of personality, emotional experiences, social circumstances and physical health. Her practice therefore includes evidence based approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy and mindfulness based techniques, alongside structured assessment and guidance for stress, anxiety, emotional concerns and interpersonal difficulties.Research forms another important dimension of her professional journey. Her specialised interest centres on the relationship between personality traits, psychological distress and psychosomatic health, particularly neuroticism and migraine. Her work examines how personality, stress and emotional regulation may influence migraine severity, disability and quality of life.
Through standardised psychological measures, quantitative analysis and Structural Equation Modeling, she seeks to examine these relationships systematically and explore the possibilities of more personalised psychological interventions.Her research interests also extend into several pressing areas of mental health. She has studied awareness of mental wellbeing in urban India, emotional autonomy, isolation and loneliness among middle aged women, occupational stress and sleep quality among young doctors, intermittent explosive disorder among young adults, anxiety among Indian women and the relationship between personality and physical health. These studies place mental health within real social contexts and diverse communities and lived experiences.Ojha’s professional development has included clinical training, internships and supervised exposure under psychologists working across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Faridabad, Haryana and NHCA Singapore. Her journey has taken her across India and the world. Originally from Bhagalpur, Bihar, with roots in West Bengal and a permanent address in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, she has experienced diverse communities, languages and cultures. This exposure has strengthened her appreciation of culturally responsive communication and the importance of meeting individuals within their own social realities.Her contribution has received recognition across professional and social platforms. Among her honours are the Women’s Pride Award 2026 by Treta Yug Foundation, International Excellence Award for Research by Exellar Books, Swami Vivekananda Award for Research Excellence by Hexagon Research Academy, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Global Icon Award, Welread Foundation Award and Cluster of Achievers Awards 2026. She has also received recognition from Mpowered Minds, The Aditya Birla Education Trust, Mumbai, was named Guest of Honour by Maharashtra Samaj Sangh, Greater Noida, and received recognition from Gyan Uday Foundation.Two recent recognitions particularly underline her professional and research oriented work. The Universal Honorary Award Council conferred upon her an Honorary Doctorate in Clinical Psychology on 29 June 2026.
She has also been presented with the India Excellence Award 2026 by Gyan Uday Foundation, recognising her work towards innovative personality based biopsychological treatment models.Alongside research and practice, Ojha is working to widen the conversation around mental health infrastructure and accessibility. Her visits to healthcare institutions across India have supported her efforts to encourage stronger psychological services. She is also interested in policy conversations that can position mental health as an everyday healthcare priority, including greater consideration within insurance coverage.As technology and artificial intelligence reshape everyday life, Ojha believes that understanding people remains fundamental. Her vision is to make psychological knowledge useful in real lives.
